Hilary is the music specialist at Cobble Hill Playschool. She has been singing, playing, and studying music since she was 8 years old and making music since she was a toddler! She considers music at this age to be one of the most valuable things that shaped her life. She received her bachelor's degree in music education, with a performance concentration on clarinet, from the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam. In 2004 she was awarded a grant from VH1 Save the Music to start music programs in two NYC elementary schools. This was enough incentive to make a move to NYC! She embraces all types of music, although her interests in clawhammer and fingerpicking banjo and her devotion to traditional folk music/movement and singing with all ages has been where she’s focused her teaching for the last 10 years. This past May (2013) Hilary received her Masters of Arts and Music education from Columbia University, Teachers College. Hilary also has a new position as Director of the Jalopy Junior Folk School in Red Hook for students between the ages of 6-14. Hilary is a songwriter, singer, and multi-instrumentalist in many bands and loves sharing music with the wonderful students at Cobble Hill! http://hilaryhawkemusic.com
